DELAND, FL--NJIT's Kenna Squier tied her personal-best with 21 points but it wasn't enough as Stetson defeated visiting NJIT, 72-49, in ASUN Conference women's basketball action Monday evening inside the Edmunds Center.

Stetson snaps a five-game skid and improves to 8-12 overall, 2-5 in the ASUN while the Highlanders still in search of its first league victory moves to 3-17 overall, 0-7 in the ASUN.

The Hatters had three players in double-figures led by center Megan Vincent (18 points), Kimia Carter (16 points) and Day'Neishia Banks (15 points). Stetson out-rebounded the visiting Highlanders 40-to-33 led by Banks with eight boards followed by Vincent and Tonysha Curry with seven each. Stetson scored 19 second-chance points in the victory.

Squier, the Highlander freshman guard, finished the game with 21 points, matching her career-best (21 points vs. Saint Peter's), shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

Senior forward Milena Bajic netted 12 points on 5-of-9 from the field and seven rebounds while Danielle Tunstall matched her personal-best mark of five block shots, chipping in six points and five rebounds.

Stetson used a late 11-2 spurt in the final 5:38 of the first quarter for a 17-8 lead over the Highlanders. NJIT's Milena Bajic scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field after the first 10 minutes.

NJIT's Ellyn Stoll knocked down a three-pointer from the left wing to open the second quarter and Bajic converted a layup, cutting the deficit to eight, 20-12, at the 7:20 mark. A pair of back-to-back layups by Kenna Squier, slimmed the Hatter lead to six, 23-17, resulting in a Stetson timeout. The Hatters used a 13-4 run over the final 5:30, heading into the half with a 36-21 advantage.

Squier and Bajic led all scorers through the first 20 minutes of action for the Highlanders. Bajic was perfect from the field, shooting 4-for-4 while Squier went 4-for-5 from the field.

Bajic continued her hot-shooting, opening up the third quarter with a three-pointer, sparking five straight for the Highlanders, pulling within 10, 36-26. Stetson scored six consecutive to go ahead 42-26 and extend its lead to 18, 48-30, with 3:30 left to play. The Highlanders rallied for a 6-0 run of their own capped by a three-pointer from the top of the key by Maria Fux, closing the gap to within 12, 48-36.

Stetson outscored the Highlanders in the fourth quarter 22-13, snapping a five-game skid, securing a 72-49 home victory.

NJIT will break for a week and return to action at home for a three-game homestand on Monday, February 3, welcoming North Alabama at 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
