Women’s Basketball Returns Home for Two; NJIT Hosts Kennesaw State on Saturday

Tip-off is slated for 1pm in the Wellness and Events Center as part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men, tipping off at 4pm against the Owls with both games on ESPN+.

NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT women's basketball team will play two straight at home, hosting Kennesaw State on Saturday inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center in ASUN Conference women's basketball action.

Tip-off is slated for 1pm in the Wellness and Events Center as part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men, tipping off at 4pm against the Owls with both games on ESPN+.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.  Michael Ventola, the voice of the Highlander women, will handle the play-by-play and color analysis from Matt Provence.

A simple way to find ESPN+ is on NJIT's official athletics website, www.njithighlanders.com. Near the middle of the home page under the headlines section, an upcoming events calendar lists scheduled NJIT contests. After finding the event, click the camera icon to the left of the event listing. That brings you to an ESPN+ portal where you can access the desired program.

All-Time Series
Kennesaw State leads the all-time series, 8-1.  NJIT defeated the Owls for the programs first all-time win on January 5, 2019, 66-60 in Newark.

Last Time Out
Jacksonville scored 49 second-half points led by Destiny Marshall's game-high 28 points, leading the Dolphins to a 88-67 home victory in ASUN Conference women's basketball action at the Historic Swisher Gymnasium Monday evening.

Visiting NJIT had three double-digit scorers paced by Danielle Tunstall and Milena Bajic each netting 14 points followed by Kenna Squier with 11 points.  Tunstall shot 6-for-10 from the field and grabbed six rebounds while Bajic pulled down eight rebounds to pace the team on the boards. Bajic and Maddie Martin both dished out a team-high four assists.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT (3-13, 0-3 ASUN) will look to snap a seven-game skid and record its first win in the ASUN Conference this season on Saturday at 1pm against the Owls from Kennesaw State.

Tunstall leads the Highlanders with 13.1ppg, 8.6rpg and 27 total blocks followed by Kenna Squier, who is just shy averaging double-figures at 9.8ppg and pulling down 4.7rpg.

Freshman three-point shooter Dani Evans ranks third in the ASUN in three-point percentage at 44.8 percent (13-for-29).

Scouting the Owls
Kennesaw State enters Saturday's contest with an even 7-7 overall mark and 1-2 in the ASUN, most recently snapping a two-game skid with a win over Lipscomb, 74-66, outscoring the Bison in the fourth quarter, 26-10.

Alexis Poole netted a career-high, combining for 27 points and 11 rebounds to capture the Owls first ASUN Conference victory of the 2020 season.  She finished 10-for-10 from the field, which ties a program-record for field goal percentage in a single game.

Poole ranks in the top five of the ASUN in points per game (16.0) and rebounds per game (8.3) while ranking third in field goal percentage (59.1).

The Owls have two other double-figure scorers in Carlotta Gianolla (12.6ppg) and Amani Johnson (12.2ppg).  Johnson has dished out a team-best 57 assists.

ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll
The ASUN Conference announced its official Preseason All-Conference team and Coaches' Polls and the Highlanders were selected to finish eighth out of nine teams the league office.

NJIT will host Lipscomb in an afternoon matinee on MLK Day - Monday, January 20.  Tip-off is slated for 2pm on ESPN+.
