All-Time Series
FDU leads the all-time series against NJIT with a 7-4-3 record. The two teams finished in a 1-1 draw in their last meeting in Newark back in 2017. The Highlanders won 1-0 the last time the two teams played at University Stadium in 2016.
NJIT, which entered the week ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region, remains undefeated in 2019 with a 2-0-3 record. The Highlanders are one of 21 teams in the nation undefeated and lone team in the ASUN Conference.
This season, four of NJIT's five matches have went to overtime, including three double overtime draws.
Last Time Out NJIT redshirt junior Rene White found the back of the net on two separate occasions as the NJIT men's soccer team played to a 2-2 double-overtime draw at Radford.
ASUN Conference Awards
NJIT men's soccer tandem of redshirt junior Rene White and freshman Samuel Reisgys have been selected ASUN Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week the conference office announced.
White picks up his third career and second consecutive ASUN Conference Player of the Week honor (sixth Player of the Week selection in NJIT history). The 5-foot-8 forward scored a pair of goals in NJIT's 2-2 double overtime draw at Radford on Sunday.
White, who ranks fifth in the nation in total goals, also leads the league in goals (6) and points (13) while scoring six of NJIT's 13 goals this season. He has scored in all but one match, including a pair of multi-goal games (Sacred Heart, Radford).
Reisgys, the Highlander keeper, earns his second consecutive ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor (eighth honor all-time in Highlander history). He recorded a total of 11 saves on the week, notching a 1.27 goals againt average and .786 save percentage.
The 6-foot-3 keeper made four saves in the double overtime draw against Drexel. He leads the ASUN in both save percentage (.844) and goals-against average (0.90).
United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA D1 Atlantic Region (as of Sept. 9)
Following an undefeated start to the 2019 season, the NJIT men's soccer team climbed up four sports in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll released on Tuesday.
NJIT, starting at 2-0-1, jumped up four spots, which saw a shift from the rankings a week earlier.
Having been ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region debut poll, NJIT went 1-0-1 last week, playing to a 2-2 double overtime draw in the home opener on Labor Day against Fordham and picked up the programs first-ever win over VCU, 1-0, in overtime, at defending regular season Atlantic 10 champions.
NJIT opened the 2019 campaign recording a 7-0 shutout at Sacred Heart. The seven goals scored are the most scored by a Highlander team in the Division I era since the 2013 season when NJIT scored six goals against Howard on November 10. The program mark stands at nine, accomplished in 2006.
2019 NJIT Outlook
After finishing with a 6-11-0 overall mark last season, fourth-year head coach Fernando Barboto will feature 11 newcomers as the Highlanders open the brand new state-of-the-art facility, Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
Rene White, named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team, returns after a 2018 season which saw him lead the team in goals (11) and points (24). His totals in both statistical categories ranked him third in the ASUN for the season and helped him earn an ASUN All-Conference Second Team selection.
Scouting the Knights
Fairleigh Dickinson enters Tuesday's match-up with a 3-2 overall mark.
The Knights rank second in the Northeast Regional Rankings, receiving FDU one vote in the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 poll released on September 10.
FDU was edged by Cornell, 1-0, in a battle of two regionally ranked teams in the Northeast.
The second-ranked Knights faced an early deficit after third-ranked Cornell scored in the fourth minute of play, but junior Jahmali Waite stepped up to make 14 saves, setting a career high, to keep the Knights within a goal. FDU, however, missed on an early opportunity from Daniel Lasarte and could not convert on attacking chances in the second half.
Junior Diego Arribas is tied for the Northeast Conference lead with three goals and seven points through five matches. Lasarte leads the team with two assists.
Jahmali Waite is the NEC leader with 27 saves in five matches, and his .844 save percentage ranks second among league goalkeepers. Waite has allowed only one goal per match this season, ranking second in the conference.
