NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's volleyball team won its second straight match, 3-0, sweeping visiting Harvard behind a combined 23 kills from
Alvaro Gimeno and
Jens Feldthus in EIVA men's volleyball action at NJIT's Wellness and Events Center Saturday evening.
NJIT (4-8 EIVA, 9-13 overall) registerd its second straight 3-0 victory – sweeping The Crimson 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22. Gimeno paced the match with 14 kills while Feldthus combined for nine. Gimeno notched a .565 hitting percentage on 23 swings and one error followed by Feldthus who combined for a .538 hitting percentage on 13 swings and two errors.

Luca Berger each added four kills in the victory.

NJIT, coming off a strong service match against Sacred Heart on Friday night, combining for 12 aces, recorded 10 aces on Saturday, led by four aces each from Gimeno and Feldthus.
Harvard's (5-7 EIVA, 6-14 overall) was led by Campbell Schoenfeld with 12 kills and Adam Gordon with 11 digs.
In the first set, the home team led early, 5-2, and pushed its lead to 15-10, after a kill by Gimeno, resulting in a Harvard timeout. NJIT continued to extend its lead, 18-12, and later 22-16. After the second timeout by the Crimson, NJIT closed the set on a 3-1 spurt, earning the 25-17 victory.
The second frame saw eight ties and two lead changes, through the mid-teens. After a 10-10 tie, NJIT used a 10-4 spurt, taking a 20-14 advantage, capped by an ace from Feldthus. Harvard rallied back to as close as three, 22-19, but the Highlanders scored the final three points of the frame for a 25-19 victory.
The third set, the closest of the three frames, saw the Highlanders take an early 10-4 lead. The frame remained close with the Crimson closing the gap to within one, 19-18 and 23-22, on multiple occasions late in the match. NJIT scored the final two points of the match on a kill by Feldthus and an ace by Berger coming out of a Harvard timeout to secure the 3-0 sweep with a 25-22 win.
NJIT will return to action on Friday, April 12 at 6pm when the Highlanders host Penn State on ESPN+.
