ATLANTA, Ga. --- One of the best seasons in NJIT women's tennis history came to an end as the No. 6 seed Highlanders were eliminated by No. 3 seeded Lipscomb 4-0 in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Stetson's Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
NJIT ends the 2018-19 campaign with an overall record of 13-9 and a regular season ASUN mark of 2-5. Lipscomb (17-5) advances to the ASUN semifinals to face No. 2 seed North Florida.
NJIT fell into an early 1-0 hole after Lipscomb was able to secure the doubles point. The Bisons won the second flight to start and upset ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year
Joleta Budiman and
Holly Matson in the first flight.
While Lipscomb was able to claim the first three completed matches in singles at Nos. 3,5, and 6, NJIT was keeping their other three matches close and could have easily claimed three points of their own. Budiman (No. 1), Bouzgarrou (No. 2), and Matson (No. 4) each won the first set of their matches, Budiman and Bouzgarrou were headed to a decisive third set, and Matson was one point away from a straight set victory.Â
