NEWARK, N.J. --- Senior
Pablo Arrutia provided the NJIT men's tennis team with its lone victory during the Highlanders' 6-1 setback against ASUN Conference defending champion North Florida Ospreys Saturday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreation Facility.
Arrutia played an inspired match at No. 6 singles in his first action of the season. Arrutia, battled back from a first set loss (6-2) to tie the score with a winning second set (6-4) and earned the point after taking a marathon third set, 14-12.
Zac Castagna also pushed his singles opponent to three sets by winning his second set but was unable to capture the point.
"The doubles matches were close today UNF proved to be too tough in the singles matches. All credit goes to
Pablo Arrutia for coming off the bench and winning his first match of the year and to Zac and Abdallah for fighting hard in close matches as well," head coach
Ira Miller said after the contest.Â
