All-Time Series
Liberty leads the all-time series, 1-0. Saturday will mark the first meeting in Newark. The Lady Flames defeated NJIT in Lynchburg, VA, 58-47, on February 2.
Last Time Out for NJIT
The NJIT women's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2019 ASUN Conference Tournament, paced by three double-figure scorers, registering a 69-53 victory at Lipscomb in ASUN Conference women's basketball action at Allen Arena Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Highlanders snap a 10-game skid, sweep the regular season series from the Lady Bison and earn a spot in the ASUN Conference postseason tournament.
ASUN Conference Tournament
NJIT, with two games remaining in the regular season, are still in contention to move up to the seventh seed in the conference tournament. NJIT will host Liberty on Saturday, March 2 and wrap up the regular season at North Florida on March 5. Kennesaw State (8-19, 4-10 ASUN) sits in seventh place, plays Stetson (March 2) and Lipscomb (March 5) to close out the year.
Liberty is currently in position for the ASUN's No. 4 seed and a home game in the quarterfinal round. However, the Lady Flames need a win to remain ahead of No. 5 seed North Florida, currently one-half game behind Liberty in the conference standings.
Liberty Notes
The Lady Flames are seeking their fifth win in their last six road games and their second victory over NJIT this season.
Bridgette Rettstatt has posted two 25-point games in her last three outings. She led all players with 15 points during Liberty's first meeting with NJIT and blocked a career-high four shots.
Ashtyn Baker, who missed the Feb. 2 meeting with NJIT due to injury, is coming off her best game since returning to action on Feb. 9. She tallied 11 points for her first double-digit performance since Dec. 13 and added a team-high four assists versus Kennesaw State.
Liberty has won its final road game of the regular season for seven consecutive years. The last time the Lady Flames lost their road finale was Feb. 28, 2011 at Charleston Southern.
If Liberty wins its last two games, it will record its 20th consecutive season with 10+ conference victories. NJIT's three ASUN wins have eclipsed its 2017-18 season total of two conference triumphs.
NJIT Notes
The Highlanders will honor six graduating seniors --
Kelly Guarino,
Tatianna Torres,
Jillian Libby,
Amber Morgan,
Amarri Trueheart and
Jordan Ireland in pre-game ceremonies on Saturday.
Saturday's game will match up two of the ASUN's top three-point shooters, Liberty's Emily Lytle and NJIT's
Kelly Guarino.
Lytle has hit 55 triples and needs 10 more to break the Lady Flames' single-season record.
Guarino ranks No. 2 in the ASUN with 68 three-pointers this season, the most by a Highlander since the 2011-12 campaign.
Next Up
NJIT will wrap up the regular season on the road, visiting North Florida on March 5 at 7pm. In the first meeting, the Ospreys topped the Highlanders, 78-59, on February 16.
