NEWARK, NJ—Visiting Navy recorded a 5-2 victory over NJIT Sunday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
Navy, defending Patriot League Champions, won its fifth straight match of the season, improving to 8-2 on the season. NJIT moves to 0-2 on the young season.
"A tough loss to the defending Patriot League Champions. Abdullah (Fouad) and Zac (Castagna) played great singles matches," head coach
Ira Miller added after the match. "Credit to navy for pulling out the close ones."
Navy earned the doubles points with wins at second and third doubles. NJIT pair
Tomi Antoljak and
Zac Castagna combined for a 6-3 victory.
Sophomore
Abdullah Fouad won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 at third singles over Navy's Jake Fishkin.
Co-captain
Zac Castagna recorded an identical score victory, 6-4, 6-4 over Navy's Peter Lohrbach at the fourth spot.
NJIT, which will host the next three matches at home, will welcome Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, February 9 at 11am.
