NJIT Returns Home for Pair of Games; Hosts North Florida on Saturday

NEWARK, NJ—NJIT (5-18, 2-8 ASUN) will return home to host a pair of games, first welcoming North Florida (10-12, 5-6 ASUN) for the first time this season inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm on ESPN+.

As part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men, the Highlanders will host the Ospreys from North Florida at 4pm on ESPN+.

NJIT is coming off a 61-42 loss at first-place FGCU on February 12.  The Highlanders look to snap its seven-game losing streak against the Ospreys.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Michael Ventola, the voice of the Highlander women, will handle the play-by-play with and color analysis from Dave Calloway.

A simple way to find ESPN+ is on NJIT's official athletics website, www.njithighlanders.com. Near the middle of the home page under the headlines section, an upcoming events calendar lists scheduled NJIT contests. After finding the event, click the camera icon to the left of the event listing. That brings you to an ESPN+ portal where you can access the desired program.

All-Time Series
NJIT leads the all-time series, 5-3.  In the last meeting between the two teams, NJIT defeated the Ospreys, 66-62, at UNF Arena on February 17, 2018, paced by Kelly Guarino's 24 points (6-for-10) from three-point range.

Scouting the Ospreys
North Florida enters Saturday's contest with a 10-12 overall mark, 5-6 in the ASUN, which ranks tied for fifth in the league with Jacksonville.  NJIT sits in eighth with a 2-8 mark in the ASUN.

North Florida is coming off a 74-66 victory against Kennesaw State on February 12.  After a slow start, the North Florida women's basketball team exploded for 51 points in the third and fourth quarters and rallied for a 74-66 win.  Arianna Emanuel-Wright and Jazz Bond combined for 40 points to lead the charge, scoring 21 and 19 respectively.

Bond, a redshirt sophomore forward, scored in double-digits for the 11th time this season, despite having her four-game double-double streak snapped.

Emanuel-Wright topped the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season and third time in the last four games.  Her 16.0ppg tops the scoring in the ASUN and ranks in the top five in rebounding per game at 7.9rpg.

Darrick Gibbs enters his fourth season as the head coach for the Ospreys after serving the previous 10 years as an assistant coach at the University of Miami. Last season, UNF finished with 13-18 overall record and earned the program's fourth berth into the ASUN Semifinals as the sixth seed. In the quarterfinals, North Florida upset third-seeded Stetson to notch their first postseason win since 2013.

ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll
North Florida was selected to finish sixth in the 2018-19 ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll. FGCU was tabbed as the favorite to win the conference title with 80 points and eight first-place votes, followed by Liberty with 71 points and one first-place vote.  NJIT was selected ninth with 15 points.
