VESTAL, NY--Binghamton's Kai Moon scored a game-best 27 points, leading the Bearcats to a 75-40 victory over visiting NJIT to conclude the non-conference slate Monday evening at The Events Center.
Binghamton improves to 11-2 while the Highlanders move to 3-10 on the year.
Moon, who leads the American East and ranks in the top-12 in the nation in points, scored 17 of her game-high 27 points in the first half, shooting 10-for-20 from the field, 2-of-6 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.Â
Binghamton's Carly Boland finished with 15 points on 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from downtown.
NJIT's Danielle Tunstall combined for her fourth double-double of the season and 15th of her career, netting 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds followed by freshman guard Kenna Squier, who netted 14 points on 6-of-13 from the field and pulling down six rebounds. Squier dished out a team-best four assists (one-shy her personal mark).
Binghamton started off on an 8-0 start and extended its lead to 17-7 at the 3:13 mark. NJIT's Ellyn Stoll knocked down a three-pointer from the left corner, which sparked a 9-2 spurt for the Highlanders, pulling within three, 19-16.
The Bearcats outscored the visiting Highlanders, 22-9, in the second period, heading into intermission with a 16-point lead, 41-25.
Kai Moon led all scorers after the first 20 minutes with 17 points on 7-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range while Danielle Tunstall paced the Highlanders with 10 points and five rebounds.
NJIT used a 6-2 run to start the third period sparked by a jumper in the paint by Tunstall, slimming the Binghamton lead to 46-31. The Bearcats scored the final seven points of the quarter, taking a 53-31 advantage.
Binghamton continued its momentum into the final stanza, outscoring the visitors, 22-9, cruising to a 75-40 victory.
The New Year brings the start of ASUN Conference play, which lands the Highlanders at home, hosting Liberty on January 4. NJIT will play their final 15 games in the ASUN.
