NEWARK, NJ--NJIT returns home for a Tuesday matinee to play host to Lipscomb in ASUN Conference action in NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. Tip-off is slated for 11:30am on ESPN+.
The reason for the 11:30 a.m., start for Tuesday's game against Lipscomb is due to the Education Day program that the NJIT women's basketball program is hosting. NJIT is expecting 1,000 grade school students from various local schools for the event. The students will listen to featured speakers on various topics, including health & wellness, the importance of education and leadership. Following the educational portion of the day, the students will stay for the game between the Highlanders and Lady Bisons.
Tuesday's game begins a stretch of the Highlanders playing at home over the next four-out-of-five-contests. Following the Lipscomb game, NJIT will host Jacksonville on Saturday at 1pm.
NJIT's is coming off a 72-60 loss at North Alabama on Saturday, led by ASUN Conference leading scorer Brittany Panetti's game-best 26 points.
The Highlanders were led by graduate student
Kelly Guarino's 19 points on 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range. The guard from Thiells, NY, finished a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Tatianna Torres added 13 points and five rebounds for NJIT while forward
Danielle Tunstall recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and notching a personal-best four blocks.

A Look Inside the Highlander Squad
NJIT enters Tuesday's contest with a 4-11 overall record, 1-1 in the ASUN. NJIT registered its lone win in league action at home against Kennesaw State on January 5, 66-60, to open the New Year.
The Highlanders, who begin a new era under first-year head coach
Mike Lane, are 4-10 overall, 1-0 in the ASUN. Lane comes to NJIT after spending six seasons at Bucknell University as the top assistant coach, where he helped guide the Bison to a program-best 27-6 mark, Patriot League title and conference championship while earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
