Women’s Volleyball Opens Home Portion of Schedule Tuesday; Highlanders Host Lehigh at 7pm

NEWARK, NJ—NJIT, which has played it first six matches on the road, will open its home portion of the schedule on Tuesday at 7pm when the Highlanders host Lehigh in the Wellness and Events Center.

Tuesday will mark the first women's volleyball match inside the Wellness & Events Center, which opened in November 2017.

A simple way to find Highlanders Sports Network is on NJIT's official athletics website, http://www.njithighlanders.com. Near the middle of the home page, click Upcoming Events for a list of scheduled NJIT contests. After finding the event, click the camera icon to the left next to the live stats icon in the red box. That brings you to the Highlander Sports Network portal where you can access the desired program.

Last Time Out
Bucknell topped NJIT for the second time this season, 3-1, in close sets to conclude the 2018 Terrier Invitational hosted by St. Francis Brooklyn at the Genovesi Center.

Bucknell moves to 4-2 on the season while the Highlanders, who picked up its first win of the 2018 season against Delaware State Saturday morning, fall to 1-5 on the young season.

Freshman Udo Nwosu led the Highlanders offensively, notching a match-best 15 kills while senior Jovana Baosic added 10 kills.  Emily Krachenfels and Makayla Greenfield posted eight and seven kills respectively.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT picked up a 3-1 victory over Delaware State on Saturday, registering the first win of the 2018 season.

Newcomer Udo Nwosu paces the Highlanders with 58 kills (2.52 kps) followed by Jovana Baosic with 44 (1.91 kps).

Junior setter Liz Benson has combined for 199 assists (8.65 aps), notching double-digit assists in every match thus far and three double-doubles.  Benson ranks third in the ASUN in assists per set.

Senior libero Adriana Nieto, who was selected to the All-Tournament teams at the Bucknell Invitational and most recently the Terrier Classic, has combined for 134 digs (5.83 dps).  Nieto has recorded double-figure digs in every match this season, including a season-best 43 digs vs. Saint Peter's.  Nieto leads the ASUN in digs per set and second in total digs.

Scouting the Mountain Hawks
Lehigh enters Tuesday's match with a perfect 6-0 record, most recently picking up wins over Rutgers, Rider, Manhattan and Coppin State in the Crosstown Invitational hosted by Lehigh.

Lehigh is now 6-0 for just the third time in program history and is currently the only undefeated team in the Patriot League.

The Mountain Hawks are paced by Julia Pressly with 62 kills (3.10 kps) followed by Sabrina Lancaster with 57 (3.35 kps).

Setter Megan Polak has recorded 178 assists (8.90 aps) and Emily Develle paces the Mountain Hawks defensively with 79 digs (3.76 dps). 

In front of the net, Emily Poole notches 21 total blocks (16 solo, five assists).

Patriot League Preseason Poll
Coming off Patriot League Tournament berths in six of the last seven seasons, the Lehigh volleyball team has been picked second in the preseason poll.  Junior Ana Spangenberg was named to the preseason All-Patriot League Team.
