JACKSONVILLE, FL—Four different players scored a goal for Jacksonville in the Dolphins' 4-2 victory over visiting NJIT Saturday evening in ASUN Conference action at Southern Oak Stadium.
The Dolphins move to 2-0 in the ASUN, 2-8-0 overall while the Highlanders now stand at 0-2 in the ASUN and 5-5 overall.
Jacksonville scored the first four goals of the contest – three in the first half and one in the second while the Highlanders scored a pair of goals late in the second half.
The home team got on the board in the 21
st minute on a goal by Reed Davis, his second of the season, assisted by Bryson Pink and Steven Saunders, giving the Dolphins a 1-0 advantage.
Five minute later, the Dolphins doubled its score, 2-0, after Selemani Baruani scored his second goal of the season in the 26
th minute. Igor Ferreira was credited with the assist.
Jacksonville closed out the scoring in the first half on an unassisted goal by Jose Manzo, his first of the season in the 32
nd minute for a 3-0 advantage.
Saunders scored the Dolphins fourth goal in the 56
th minute unassisted for a 4-0 lead.
The visiting Highlanders scored its first goal of the match in the 63
rd minute as freshman
Andres Gonzalez scored his first career goal unassisted.
Redshirt sophomore
Rene White scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 72
nd minute, closing the Highlander gap to within two, 4-2.
White, who leads the ASUN Conference in goals scored, has scored eight goals in 10 games this season and ranks tied for sixth in the nation in goals (as of September 29).
Highlander goalkeeper
Victor Pujades made five saves in 90 minutes while Jacksonville's Matt Levy combined for seven saves.
NJIT edged the Dolphins in overall shots 19-17 and corner kicks 6-4.
Thomas Radon paced the Highlanders with six total shots (four on goal) while White and Gonzalez each took four shots in the match.
NJIT will return to action on October 3 when the Highlanders host Temple in non-conference men's soccer action at Kean University East Campus Facility. Kickoff is slated for 3:30pm.
