NEWARK, NJ--NJIT will look to bounce back to the win column this weekend when the Highlanders visit ASUN Conference opponent Jacksonville on Saturday at 7pm.
All-Time Series
NJIT leads the all-time series, 2-1, most recently a 4-1 victory over the Dolphins last season in Hillside, NJ. The lone win for the Dolphins came at the 2016 ASUN Conference Tournament with Jacksonville defeating NJIT 2-1.
Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT (5-4, 0-1 ASUN), has dropped its three contests most recently in non-conference action against LIU Brooklyn, 3-2, on September 25.
Thomas Radon and
Rene White were the goal scorers for the Highlanders.
White, who has scored seven of the Highlanders 11 goals, is the ASUN leader in goals and ranks tied for first in points at 15. His seven goals ranks the redshirt sophomore tied for 13
th in the nation.
Andrew Nino is the league leader in assists with four while goalkeeper
Victor Pujades ranks first in the ASUN in saves (31), second in goals-against average (1.21) and third in save percentage (.738).
The Highlanders started out the season 5-0-1, including three shutouts and one double overtime victory. Since the 3-2 double overtime victory over Saint Francis U, the Highlanders are 1-4, with its lone win coming at St. Francis Brooklyn on September 12.
Scouting Jacksonville
Jacksonville enters Saturday's contest with a 1-8 overall record, 1-0 in the ASUN. The Dolphins only win of the season came against ASUN Conference opponent Lipscomb, 3-2, in double overtime on September 22.
In the Dolphins last outing, Jacksonville visited #9 Creighton, falling 2-1. Alex Dixon netted his second goal of the season in the contest.
Dixon and Igor Ferreira lead the Dolphins with a pair of goals each while Jose Manzon, who ranks tied for second in the ASUN with three assists.
ASUN Conference Preseason Poll
Sophomore midfielder
Pablo Jimenez has been named to the 2018 Preseason ASUN All-Conference men's soccer team and the Highlanders as a team, were picked to finish fourth after the league announced its 2018 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Coming off another successful season in the Division I era, NJIT registered eight wins in 2017, marking the second-highest win total, since competing as an NCAA Division I program, under the leadership of
Fernando Barboto in his second season at the helm.
The Highlanders combined for 25 points and one first-place vote.
In addition to earning a spot on the All-Conference team, Jimenez, from Barcelona, Spain, was voted ASUN Preseason Fan-Vote Player of the Year with 342 votes.
FGCU was selected to finish second with 41 points and one first-place vote.
