BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY—St. Francis Brooklyn swept visiting NJIT, 3-0, Friday afternoon in the second match of the day at the Terrier Invitational.
NJIT, still looking for its first win of the 2018 season, drops to 0-4 while the Terriers move to an even 2-2 on the season.
The Terriers won in straight sets – 25-21, 25-20 and 25-13.
St. Francis Brooklyn's Ally Speweik led the match with 12 kills followed by Una Stevic (8) and Sidney Colvery (7). Colvery hit .500 for the match while Wies Hurkmans combined for a .714 hitting percentage on five kills, seven swings and no errors.
Terrier setter Gabriella Nobrega recorded a double-double (25 assists, 19 digs) while Kizzy Rodriguez notched 19 digs.

Emily Krachenfels led the Highlanders with eight kills while freshman
Marina Markaki added seven kills.

Adriana Nieto, an ASUN Preseason All-Conference team honoree, notched 17 digs. Newcomer

The Highlanders opened up the first set with a 4-1 advantage. The Terriers quickly tied the Highlanders at 5-5, subsequently gaining an 11-10 edge. The seesaw battle continued as the Highlanders took a slight 15-13 advantage, even pulling ahead 21-19 later on. The Terriers rattled off six consecutive points to overtake the lead and went on to win 25-21.
The back and forth momentum carried to the second set as the two alternated scoring for the first nine points. The Terriers later built an 11-6 lead, to which the Highlanders responded with five unanswered points. The Terriers rallied back to go ahead 17-12, never giving up control of the set the rest of the way, holding onto a 25-20 victory.
The Terriers dominated the final set, leading by as many as 12 on two separate occasions – 21-9 and 25-13 to finish off the sweep.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 11:30am when the Highlanders face Delaware State. The Highlanders will wrap up the Invitational against Bucknell at 4:30pm.
