MEET RESULTS AFTER DAY ONE (PDF)
(EAST MEADOW, NY) -- The Highlanders swimming and diving team has gotten off to a fast start at the 2018 ECAC Championships, leading the field of 10 teams with two days remaining in the meet.
NJITÂ accumulated 360 points to seize first place with a 56-point buffer over second-place Fairfield University (304). Manhattan College (229), Monmouth University (208) and Lafayette College (191) round out the Top-5 following Friday's events.Â
The Highlanders set the tone by winning the first men's swimming event, as the quartet of freshman
Edward Madrigal, junior
Nicholas Lyons, sophomore
Mattheau Bonner and junior
Tyler Pollock paced the pack in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:33.69 -- one-third of a second faster than the second-place finishers from Monmouth (1:34.02).
NJITÂ later placed first in the other relay held of Friday, as Madrigal, freshman
Kai Legband, Bonner and freshman
Joshua Franco out-touched the competition in the 800 Yard Freestyle by more than five seconds with a time of 6:52.82.
Individually, freshman
Justin Andersen earned a third-place finish in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 16:31.38.
On the diving side, NJITÂ was represented well in the lone event Friday. Senior
Avery Bechtel placed second in the Three Meter Dive with a score of 182.60 while junior
Cole Becker took third at 161.25.
The action on Day 2 of the ECACs will commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
