SANTA BARBARA, CA—UC Santa Barbara defeated visiting NJIT, 3-1, Thursday evening at the 2018 UCSB Asics Invitational at Rob Gymnasium.
NJIT (0-2) won the first set, 25-19, but UC Santa Barbara (1-0) won the next three frames, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20 to secure the victory.
Roy McFarland led UC Santa Barbara offensively with 12 kills followed by Corey Chavers with 11. Setter Randy DeWeese combined for 31 assists and eight digs. Grady Yould notched nine digs.
NJIT newcomer
Alvaro Rubio registered a match-best 16 kills to go along with seven digs while
Raymond Kowalski was one dig shy a double-double, combining for 10 kills and nine digs.
Setter
Ricardo Whitaker led the match with 33 assists while libero
Shannon Heckman paced the match with 11 digs.
NJIT will conclude its trip out West on Friday against Cal State Northridge at 1pm (ET) and Long Beach State at 11pm (ET).
