NEWARK, NJ—Kayla Gordon registered a double-double with 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead visiting Jacksonville over NJIT, 88-58, in ASUN Conference action on Saturday at the Wellness and Events Center (WEC).

Jacksonville won its fifth straight game, improving to 4-0 in the ASUN and 14-5 overall while the Highlanders fall to 0-4 in the ASUN and 2-17 overall.

In addition to Gordon's game-high 22 points, Jasmyn Brown filled up the box score, posting 19 points, six rebounds and five assists while Brandi Buie followed with 14 points and Naqaiyyah Teague chipped in 10 points. 

Gordon finished 10-for-15 from the field while Buie shot 6-for-10 from the field.  Teague grabbed seven rebounds followed by Jasmyn Brown with six rebounds.

Gordon, the Dolphins 6-foot forward, who ranks second in the ASUN in rebounding, pulled down a game-best 13 rebounds, leading Jacksonville to a 48-27 advantage on the glass.

Redshirt junior Tatianna Torres paced the Highlanders with 16 points and seven assists followed by Kelly Guarino with 15 points (all from behind the arc).  Senior forward Taj Lewis scored 10 points and freshman Dez Allen came off the bench to score nine points.

Sophomore Danielle Tunstall pulled down a team-best five rebounds followed by Torres (4) and Allen (3).

Jacksonville scored 54 of its 88 points in the paint, added 20 bench points and 17 off second chance points.  NJIT scored 21 points off the bench paced by Lewis and Allen, who scored 10 and nine respectively.

The Dolphins scored the first 11 points of the game and led 24-8 after the first quarter. 

Jacksonville continued its momentum into the second quarter, extending its lead to 21, 31-10, after a three-pointer by Brown at the 7:33 mark.  Torres scored the next eight points for the Highlanders, cutting the Dolphin lead to within 15, 33-18, at the 5:36 mark. 

Torres knocked down herthird three-pointer of the quarter at 2:34, to bring the Highlanders within 12 of the Dolphins, 38-26.  Jacksonville used a 7-2 run to close out the first half ahead, 43-26.

Gordon led all scorers at the half with 13 points followed by Brown (11) and Torres (11) for the Highlanders.

Jacksonville scored 28 third quarter points and took its largest lead of the quarter 32 on and closed out the game with an 88-58 advantage.

NJIT will have a quick turnaround and host North Florida on Monday at 7pm in the Wellness and Event Center (WEC).
