WASHINGTON, DC – NJIT men's swimming and diving split in a double dual meet with Howard and Marymount on Friday night, defeating Marymount 198-27 and just falling to host Howard 116-115.
In the 12 events that NJIT competed in, they earned first place in six of them.
The score was tied between NJIT and Howard 91-91 with three events remaining, and the Bisons pulled away with the win, overcoming the Highlanders by just one point.
The Highlanders took first in their first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, with
Scott Quirie,
Nicholas Lyons,
Mattheau Bonner and
Edward Parks swimming in 1:36.98.
In the 1000 free, NJIT finished 2, 3, 4 with
JT Morehead coming in at 10:42.22,
Jeremiah Sanchez at 11:08.57 and
Jake Donofrio 11:13.67.
Senior
Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos came in first in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.78 and then took second in the 100 free coming in at 48.53.
Tyler Pollock notched second in the 50 free clocking in t 22.02.
Senior Quirie earned himself two more individual wins, first in the 200 IM (1:58.85) and the 100 back (53.43).
In the diving events,
Avery Bechtel finished first and
Cole Becker took second, with Bechtel breaking his own NJIT 1-meter dive record scoring 218.30 and the 3-meter dive record at 194.00.
Bonner and Parks finished second and third in the 100 fly event, with Bonner missing first place by .27 of a second.
Freshman Bonner picked up another silver in the 500 free, swimming in 5:04.86.
In the 100 breast Lyons and
Alex Danielson came in second and third respectively.
In the last event of the meet the Highlanders grabbed a second place finish in the 200 free relay including Pollock, Lyons,
Jack Matusiak and Montarroyos.
The Highlanders will host their first meet in the new NJIT Wellness and Events Center on January 27
th starting at 11am. NJIT will be celebrating senior day for their five seniors
Edward Mann,
Jack Matusiak, Mathaus Monteiro Montarroyos,
Scott Quirie and
Maxim Tillmann.
