NJIT Highlights at FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL—Five players scored in double figures for FGCU paced by Jessica Cattani's game-high 16 points, as the Eagles cruised past visiting NJIT 90-66 in ASUN Conference action Saturday afternoon at Alico Arena.
FGCU, winners of six straight and 10-out-of-11 games, improve to 2-0 in the ASUN and 16-3 overall. The Eagles entered Saturday's contest ranked No. 1 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll and espnW polls.
Cattani scored 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting - all from 3-point range. Four different Eagles – Erica Nelson, Nasrin Ulel, Rosemarie Julien and China Dow chipped in 13 points apiece.
Dow shared game-high honors with eight boards while Lisa Zderadicka dished out a game-best seven assists.
NJIT (0-2 ASUN, 2-15 overall) was paced by senior forward
Taj Lewis, who came off the bench to score team-best 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.

Tatianna Torres added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Highlanders. Guards
Kelly Guarino and
Amarri Trueheart scored nine points each while sophomore
Danielle Tunstall added eight points and eight rebounds.
NJIT remained close for nearly the game's first six minutes and trailed by just one, 10-9, with 4:22 left in the quarter, but FGCU's Taylor Gradinjan made her second consecutive three-pointer and Dow followed with a pair of free throws to spark a 7-0 run that finished a 20-11 quarter.
FGCU used a 10-2 spurt to open the second quarter and extend its lead to 17, 30-13, capped by a three-pointer by Nelson. In the final 1:50 of action, NJIT went on a 7-2 run, slimming the Eagles lead to 14, 44-30, after a pair of free throws by Trueheart.
The Eagles exploded for 34 third quarter points and led by as many as 31 with 3:50 left in the quarter to push the game out of reach.
NJIT will return to action on Monday at 1pm when the Highlanders travel to Stetson.
