Men’s Volleyball Adds Six Newcomers for 2018 Season


NEWARK, NJ—NJIT men's volleyball coach Danny Goncalves announced a group of six newcomers, who will join the Highlander program for the upcoming 2018 season.

The incoming group includes: transfer Luca Berger (MB; Goianial, Brazil), Michael Colonna (OH; Miami, FL), Zachary Hresko (RS; Chesterfield, MO), Marcus Jackson (OH; Chantilly, VA), Parker Lui (L; Honolulu, HI) and Michal Niczewski (M; Harrison).

Here is a closer look at the 2018 newcomers:

Luca Berger
Berger, a 6-foot-10 transfer from Coker College, played in 24 matches for the Cobras.  He recorded 134 kills, 40 digs, and a team-high 69 blocks on the season. Berger attended Olimpo High School where he played soccer and volleyball and played club volleyball for Sesi SP Brazil.

Michael Colonna
Colonna, a 6-foot-5 outside hitter, was a three-time Male Athlete of the Year and two-time Miami Dade 1A-5A Athlete of the Year at Ransom Everglades High School.  He played for the OBU and Team Florida High Performance.  Colonna was a member of the football team, earning Defensive Player of the Year and member of the State Championship soccer team.

Zachary Hresko
Two-time first-team all-State and all-Metro, Player of the Year, first-team all-Metro and two-time State Champion at Parkway Central High School.  A three-time all-State Academic team honoree, Hresko will major in civil engineering. He played club for HPSTL and earned first-team all-State, Defender of the Year in the Region and first-team all-Conference in boys soccer.

Marcus Jackson
Attended Freedom High School and played club for Annapolis Volleyball. Jackson was a member of the track and field team, earning all-State recognition in the high jump and placing fourth in the State of Virginia.

Parker Lui
Member of the HHSAA State Championship Runner-Up at Moanalua High School, where he was selected team most valuable player.

Michal Niczewski
The 6-foot-6 middle guided Harrison High School to back-to-back Sectional Champions (2015 & 2016) and played club for the Warren Sixpack.
