NEWARK, NJ—Kennesaw State senior guard Deandrea Sawyers notched a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Owls to its fifth straight win in a 66-56 victory at NJIT in women's basketball ASUN Conference action at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

Kennesaw State sweeps the regular season series from the Highlanders, taking a 75-64 victory at Kennesaw State on February 2 and seven days later, topping NJIT in Newark, 66-56.

The Owls improve to 6-3 in the league, moving into a tie of third place with Jacksonville and 7-16 overall, while NJIT stands at 3-6 in the ASUN, 10-14 overall.

The visitors used a 14-0 run to end the third quarter, which gave Kennesaw State a 51-37 lead, and the Owls held onto a late spurt that saw the Highlanders cut the lead to three points at 57-54, on an old-fashion three-point play by freshman Tracey
Brereton, with 3:20 remaining.  The Owls closed out the game on a 9-2 run, securing its fifth straight win, 66-56.

Sawyers scored 18 of her 20 points after halftime, sparking the Owls second-half run, including 10 in the third quarter.  Junior Kelly Dulkoski was Kennesaw State's other double-figure scorer with 15 points and freshman forward Carlotta Gianolla added 10 points off the bench for the visitors.

NJIT was led by redshirt sophomore Tatianna Torres, who nearly missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, including six assists and two steals.

Kelly Guarino and Danielle Tunstall each netted eight points while Maria Ruban added seven points.  Guarino finished 2-of-3 from downtown.  Brereton came off the bench and scored six points on 4-of-5 from the free throw line and grabbed four rebounds.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday when the Highlanders visit Jacksonville at 1pm.
