Stetson Wins 11th Straight; Tops Highlanders 60-37

Game Highlights

NEWARK, NJ—Visiting Stetson picked up its 11th straight win of the season led by a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds from Breana Bey as the Hatters defeated NJIT, 60-37, in women's basketball ASUN Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Hatters (22-5, 11-1 ASUN), who won its 11th in a row, clinched a top-2 seed for ASUN tournament while the Highlanders dropped to 10-17 overall, 3-9 in the league.

Bey, who hails from Jersey City, returned back home and finished 8-for-10 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line, including seven rebounds for the Hatters. 

Center Sarah Sagerer combined for a double-double 12 points, 10 rebounds while Britanti Saunders filled up the box score, scoring 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

NJIT was led by freshman forward Danielle Tunstall's 11 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Alana Dudley chipped in 10 points.  Tunstall shot 5-for-6 from the free throw line as the Highlanders shot 62.5 percent from the charity strip (10-for-16).

Senior forward Leah Horton added eight points and eight rebounds.

The Hatters jumped out to an 18-5 advantage after the first quarter and 27-16 heading into the half.  The Highlanders combined for 21 points over the final 20 minutes while the Hatters combined for 33, including 19 points off second chance shots and 14 fast break points.

NJIT will have a quick turnaround and host Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night at 7pm.  The game will be streamed live on ESPN3. 

In the first meeting between the two teams, NJIT outscored FGCU in the first quarter, 17-13 and by two points in the second quarter, 16-14, holding a 32-27 lead at the half. 
FGCU exploded for 30 points in the third quarter and outscored the visiting Highlanders, 16-7, in the final quarter, securing a 73-53 home victory.
