The NJIT women's basketball team will visit Dartmouth on Sunday at 2pm to wrap up a two-game road trip.
Sunday's broadcast will be live on the Ivy League Network and Live stats will also be provided from DartmouthSports.com.
A simple way to find Ivy League Network is on NJIT's official athletics website, http://www.njithighlanders.com. Near the middle of the home page NJIT TV section, click Upcoming Events for a list of scheduled NJIT contests. After finding the event, click the camera icon to the right of the event listing. That brings you to an Ivy League portal where you can access the desired program.
All-Time Series
Dartmouth leads the all-time series, 3-0. In the last meeting, Dartmouth came out on top, 49-36, on December 31, 2015 in Newark, NJ.
Dartmouth was led by Lakin Roland who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Big Green had a nice lead coming into the half, up 27-19, and held off the Highlanders scoring through the end of the game. Late-game scoring was capped by
Kate Letkewicz downing three of four free throws to hold onto the lead.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth, winners of its first three games, starts the 2017 season 3-0, for the first time since 2014-15 season.
The Big Green is coming off a 70-54 victory over Rhode Island, behind senior Kate Letkewicz and junior Cy Lippold, who both scored 17 points apiece while senior Emily Slagle dropped 14 and junior Isalys Quiñones scored 11. Letkewicz also grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Dartmouth opened the season, defeating Vermont (66-56), Boston College (68-57) and most recently URI (70-54).
Last season's leading scorer, Kate Letkewicz, returns this season after posting 11.2 points per game last year.
Junior Isalys Quiñones and senior Olivia Smith are also coming off of solid seasons, scoring 9.1 and 8.4 points per game respectively.
Senior Emily Slagle was second in free throw percentage last season, behind Fanni Szabo who graduated, averaging .875 in 2016-17. Letkewicz and Smith will also be factors defensively for the Big Green.
Scouting NJIT
The Highlanders look for its first win of the season after dropping its first five contests of the season.
NJIT is coming off a 79-49 loss at Army West Point, led by
Tatianna Torres with 11 points, which ties a season-best mark for the redshirt junior.
Taj Lewis is leading the Highlanders in scoring, averaging 10.2 ppg, followed by
Tatianna Torres with 9.8ppg. Sophomore forward
Danielle Tunstall paces the Highlanders on the boards with 7.3rpg.
Wellness and Events Center
NJIT celebrated a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on November 10, 2017 to open the new state-of-the-art Wellness and Events Center nicknamed the "WEC" – which will feature a 3,500-seat basketball arena and compare favorably with many Division I mid-major facilities throughout the country, allowing NJIT to continue to grow their men's and women's basketball programs.
The WEC will be three stories high and its north side will be all windows, through which natural light will flood into the building. The tall windows will overlook the new athletic field, which will open in Fall 2018.
ASUN Conference
The Highlanders, who became the eighth full member of the A-Sun effective July 1, 2015, will begin its third season in the ASUN Conference, will have 15 games, home-and-away, against the other seven conference teams, three of which played in the 2017 post-season.
NJIT was selected sixth in the 2017 Preseason ASUN Conference poll, combining for 21 points ahead of USC Upstate (19 points) and Lipscomb (14 points).
After winning last year's ASUN Conference women's basketball championship title, FGCU was picked to repeat by the league's head coaches in the 2017-18. The Eagles garnered six first-place votes among the head coaches in the league, while also being selected first in the media poll.
