North Dakota State Tops Visiting NJIT


FARGO, ND – North Dakota State (2-0) played efficient basketball on Sunday afternoon at the Scheels Center to defeat NJIT (0-2) by a score of 105-58 in non-conference women's basketball action.

The Bison shot 40-for-68 from the field while grabbing 51 rebounds. 

North Dakota State wasted no time out of the gate as freshman Michelle Gaislerova hit a three-pointer just 10 seconds in to the contest.  The trend would continue for the Bison as they finished the quarter going 4-for-6 from three-point range and 12-for-17 from the field.

The Highlanders struggled to put the basket into the hoop as they shot just 4-for-15 from the field in the first quarter.  However, NJIT was perfect from the free-throw line as they shot 6-for-6.  Sophomore Tracey Brereton hit the lone three-pointer of the first half for the Highlanders.

NJIT showed more promise in the second quarter as they shot 6-for-17 from the field.  Senior Taj Lewis finished the first half with eight points, shooting 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.  Redshirt-Junior Tatianna Torres finished the half with seven points. 

North Dakota State took a 51-30 lead in to halftime.  Gaislerova led the way for the Bison as she finished the half with 11 points (4-4, 2-2, 1-2). 

The Bison kept its strong play going in to the third quarter as they outscored NJIT 33-8.  Bison senior Taylor Thundstedt hit two three-pointers to lead the scoring.  Freshman Macey Kvilvang and sophomore Autumn Ogden were right behind her with five points each. 

The Highlanders put their best offensive effort together in the fourth quarter as they shot 9-for-19 from the field.  North Dakota State shot 7-for-16 from the field in the quarter. 

Highlanders' freshman Ellyn Stoll recorded her first double-digit game of her NCAA career.  She finished the game with 13 points, shooting 5-for-15 from the field with two-three pointers made. 

Lewis finished the game going 4-for-4 from the field to register a career-best ten points. 

North Dakota State had six players finish in double-digits in the victory over NJIT.  Gaislerova led the way with 14 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range. 

The Highlanders are now 0-5 all-time against North Dakota State. 

NJIT (0-2) will return to action on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. as they host Fairleigh-Dickinson at the new state-of-the-art Wellness and Events Center.  The Highlanders are 4-6 all-time against the Knights.
