Hot Hitting Kennesaw State Tops Visiting NJIT


KENNESAW, GA—Kennesaw State hit an impressive .463 for the match, sweeping visiting, NJIT, 3-0, Saturday evening at the Convocation Center in ASUN Conference women's volleyball action.

The Owls, winners of its last three matches, improve to 6-1 in the ASUN, 12-4 overall while the Highlanders fall to 1-6 in the league and 10-13 overall.

Kennesaw State won in straight sets—25-15, 25-13 and 25-13, combining for a .463 hitting percentage on 44 kills, 80 attempts and just seven errors as a team.

Leading the Kennesaw State offense was Anaiah Boyer and Lauren Chastang, each notching eight kills followed by Rachel Taylor with seven. 

Chastang combined for a .538 hitting percentage (8k, 1e, 13a) while Taylor finished .600 on 10 swings and one error.

Setter Kristi Piedimonte paced the match with 28 assists and four digs as Lexi Broadwater played one set, registering 10 assists and four digs.

Defensively, Katrina Morgan led the match with 13 digs and Syndey Shelton and Taylor combined for three block assists apiece.

Iva Mandic led the Highlander attack with eight kills followed by Madi Busler and Tess Albyn each notching seven kills.  Mandic finished the match with a team-best .353 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Liz Benson piled up 22 assists and Busler led the Highlanders with four digs.  Three different Highlanders—Benson, Olivia Welsch and Adriana Nieto combined for three digs.

NJIT will break for a week and return to action on Saturday at USC Upstate.  First spike is slated for 1pm on ESPN3.

In the first meeting in Newark, the Spartans pulled out a five-set victory over the Highlanders.
