NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's volleyball team picked up its second straight win of the season, blanking visiting Kean, 3-0, Friday evening in men's volleyball non-conference action at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
NJIT (2-2) won in straight sets Friday – 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 while the visiting Cougars suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.
Senior
Jabarry Goodridge led the way for the Highlanders with seven kills followed by six from
Raymond Kowalski.
Ricardo Whitaker, the Highlanders sophomore setter, piled up a match-best 19 assists while adding five digs. Four different Highlanders combined for three digs.
Goodridge notched a match-high five service aces while
Luke Robbe added four, as the home team held an 11-to-2 advantage in that category.
Kean's Steven Zarzycki paced the Cougars with seven kills followed by six from Jacob Kauffman. Kauffman led Kean defensively with five digs while Jared Warner combined for six total blocks (2 solo, 4 assists) in front of the net.
Setter Ian Flor notched 16 assists for the Cougars.
NJIT will have a quick turnaround, hosting UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 7pm. The Banana Slugs (2-1) will play two matches at the Golden Dome Invitational before squaring off against the Highlanders.
