NEWARK, NJ— NJIT, which has won the last four-out-of-five matches, will begin ASUN Conference play on Saturday at 1pm when the Highlanders visit USC Upstate at Hodge Center.

NJIT heads into the ASUN conference opener with an 8-7 overall record with wins this season over Saint Francis U, Morgan State, Fordham, St. Francis Brooklyn, Saint Peter's and Lafayette.

Sophomore libero Adriana Nieto – ranks fourth in ASUN w/ 4.27dpg and second in service per set 0.45.  Her 7 service aces vs. Saint Peter's in a four-set match – ranks third in nation.

Transfers Weronika Wiezik and Katarzyna Klocek have nine matches each with double-digit kills this season.  Junior setter Anna Rodrigues ranks sixth in the ASUN conference with 298 assists despite playing in only three sets through the first four matches of the season.

If NJIT wins in Spartanburg this weekend, it will be their fifth on the road this year, matching their total road wins from the last two seasons combined.

As a team, the Highlanders dug up a season-high 79 balls at St. Francis Brooklyn last weekend, the most they've registered since getting 117 against Rider in 2015.

Upstate played in its seventh five-set match of the season on Tuesday evening as it defeated crosstown rival Wofford 3-2, moving its record to 7-9 on the season.

The Spartans digs per set average of 17.00 leads the ASUN and places 16th in the NCAA.

Madison Haake (20) and Kaleigh Kelley (19) are two of the best in the conference from the service line, combining for 39 service aces in 2016 thus far.

USC Upstate had double-digit blocks against Towson (13) and Wofford (12) this past week. The Spartans haven't had multiple matches with ten-plus blocks in a single season since 2012.

Haake's 8.02 assists per set is fourth in the ASUN, but has averaged 9.77 in the Spartans last eight matches.

USC Upstate went just 3-11 in conference play last year, but begins play against NJIT, a team the Spartans swept in 2015.
