PHILADELPHIA—NJIT newcomers
Katarzyna Klocek and
Weronika Wiezik combined for 27 kills Friday in the Highlanders 3-1 victory over Morgan State on day one at the La Salle Invitational.
NJIT (2-0) registered a 3-0 win against Saint Francis U Friday morning and followed up with a 25-10, 15-25, 25-19 and 25-21 nightcap victory against Morgan State in the Highlanders second match.
The two-day, four-match tournament in Philadelphia will wrap up on Saturday with the Highlanders facing Quinnipiac at 12Noon and host La Salle at 7pm.
Klocek, the Highlanders 6-foot-3 right side posted 15 kills on 34 attempts with four errors, combining for a .324 hitting percentage while Wiezik recorded 12 kills in the win.
Junior middle
Tess Albyn notched a .316 hitting percentage, notching six kills on 19 swings. Senior co-captain
Anneka Harris added six kills followed by newcomer
Mikalah Hughes with five.
Freshman setter
Liz Benson put together a strong performance, recording a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Adriana Nieto dug-up a team-best 11 digs. Klocek added eight digs for the winners.
The Highlanders held a 12-to-5 service ace advantage paced by Benson and Nieto with three aces each while Wiezik and
Emily Krachenfels added two apiece.
Morgan State (0-2) was paced by Natashia Barker with 11 kills while Monette Daniels added nine kills on 20 attempts with just one error for a .400 hitting percentage.
Setter Rio Wallace shared match-high honors with NJIT's Benson, collecting 38 assists and five digs. Libero Minja Rankov led the match with 19 digs.
