NEWARK, NJ—NJIT rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat visiting Stetson 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-11) in ASUN Conference women's volleyball action Friday night at the Fleisher Center.
Junior outside hitter
Tess Albyn led the Highlanders (11-21 overall, 2-11ASUN) with a career-best 20 kills. Albyn finished with a .226 hitting percentage on 53 swings with eight errors in the win.
Senior outside hitter
Weronika Wiezik combined for a double-double with17 kills and 12 digs for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders split time at the setting position, with freshman
Liz Benson leading the way with 21 assists followed by sophomore
Emily Krachenfels with 19. Krachenfels shared match-high honors with three service aces, leading the Highlanders to a 12-7 advantage in that category.
Sophomore libero
Adriana Nieto paced the Highlanders defensively with a match-high 24 digs followed by Krachenfels, who posted a double-double on the night, with 16 digs, in addition to her 19 assists. Wiezik added 12 digs.
Senior right side Madison Akins led the Hatters (4-24 overall, 1-12 ASUN) with 12 kills and 14 digs, notching her third double-double of the season. Atkins now ranks 10th on Stetson's all-time kills list with 1082 kills.
Freshman setter Karmen Reivik also registered her third double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Anna Bezhan added a season-high 11 kills to help the offensive effort.
The Highlanders will conclude the 2016 season against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at 1pm. NJIT will recognize its three graduating seniors –
