HILLSIDE, NJ—NJIT's Mamadou Guirassy and Danny Cordeiro combined for three goals and four assists, leading the NJIT men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over St. Bonaventure in the final regular season match of the season for the Highlanders Saturday afternoon at Kean University East Campus Facility.

NJIT recorded its eighth win of the season, marking the second-highest win total, since competing as an NCAA Division I program (first season 2004).  The record stands at 10 set in 2012.

Cordeiro netted a pair of goals and was credited with one assist, combining for five points Saturday.  The five points is tied for the NJIT Division I record, with Cristian Marcel (5 points vs. Howard on October 25, 2015).

Guirassy scored a goal and added three assists, totaling five points, which is tied for second in the NJIT D1 era with Cristian Marcel and Cordeiro.

The goal for Guirassy, his team-leading seventh, ties the NJIT DI single season record with Franco Gamero (7 scored in 2012) and his three assists is another record, shared with Erik Magnsusson, who posted three assists at Manhattan on September 13, 2008.

NJIT wasted no time, striking first in the second minute on a goal by Cordeiro, his first of the season, assisted by Guirassy, for a 1-0 lead.  Guirassy was credited with his first assist of the season, slipping the ball through the St. Bonaventure defense, to Cordeiro, who finished inside the box. 

The Highlanders added another goal in the 23^rd minute as Phillip Costa netted his first goal of the season, assisted by Guirassy and Cordeiro for a 2-0 advantage.  Senior Stephen McGeever advanced the ball up the field to Guirassy, who was positioned inside the box.  Guirassy passed the ball to his left, finding Cordeiro at the top of the box, setting up Costa, whose shot hit off the back right post and deflected into the goal.

NJIT had a chance to score in the closing minutes of the first half on a shot by Zach Halma, which sailed high.

St. Bonaventure got on the board in the 51^st minute as redshirt freshman Nikko Richards scored his first goal of the season.  Richards slipped a pass behind the NJIT defense to Paul Afful, who set up a give-and-go, passing the ball with his back heel to Richards and scoring past a diving Highlander goalkeeper.

Guirassy added to the Highlanders goal scoring in the 57^th minute, netting his team-leading seventh goal of the season, for a 3-1 advantage.  Freshman Juan Zapata was credited with the assist.

The Highlanders capped off the scoring in the 61^st minute on the second goal of the match by Cordeiro, assisted by Guirassy.  The junior defender gathered the ball after a deflection off the goalkeeper on a challenge, finishing in the open net, giving NJIT a 4-1 lead.

Senior Marco Luna picked up the win for NJIT, stopping one Bonnie shot.  The Highlanders held an 18-8 shot advantage (7-2 on goal) and 11-4 in corner kicks.

With the ASUN Conference Men's Soccer regular season ending Saturday evening, two of the six postseason spots are still up for grabs, while all six seeds remain undecided. Jacksonville, Stetson and USC Upstate will battle for the final two spots. North Florida and FGCU are still in the running for the regular season title and top seed.

NJIT which tallied a point in the draw against No. 22 North Florida Wednesday afternoon, sits in third place with 10 points.  NJIT will be the #3 seed with a Lipscomb loss and a #4 seed with a Lipscomb win/draw.

The Ospreys remain the lone unbeaten team in conference play, as they travel to USC Upstate in search of the regular season title and No. 1 seed. FGCU heads to Nashville needing a win and a UNF loss or tie to secure another regular season crown. Stetson hosts Jacksonville Saturday night, with the winner earning a berth to the 2016 ASUN Men's Soccer Championship.

The Highlanders recognized seven graduating seniors in pregame ceremonies-- Nick Cipriano, Christian Foust, Nikola Gogic, Victor Kausch, Marco Luna, Stephen McGeever and Rickardo Oldham.
