EASTON, PA—Host Lafayette swept visiting NJIT, 3-0, on the final day of the Lafayette Invitational at Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette won in straight sets – 25-20, 25-11 and 25-14, improving to 7-3 on the season while the Highlanders drop to 4-8.
NJIT finished the Invitational with a 2-1 mark after picking up 3-2 wins against St. Francis Brooklyn and Rider on Friday.
The Leopards were led by Brianne Giangiobbe, who recorded a match-best 12 kills while Elizabeth Walsh added seven kills.
Setter Maria Balus registered 29 assists for Lafayette. Defensively, Lauren Pisauro and Tori Smith notched 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
Lafayette's Kelly Flynn recorded a match-high 10 block assists and Giangiobbe added seven block assists. The Leopards held an 8-3 advantage in the service ace category, paced by Katherine Stevens and Tori Smith with two apiece.
NJIT's
Nina Vukotic, who was coming off a 32-kill performance against Rider Friday night, paced the Highlanders with eight kills, followed by twin sister
Danica Vukotic's seven.
Freshman setter
Emily Krachenfels recorded a double-double with 19 assists and match-best 14 digs.
Nina Vukotic and libero
Adriana Nieto each added nine digs. Krachenfels was named to the all-tournament team combining for 119 assists (9.15aps), 44 digs (3.38dps) and seven total blocks (all assists).
NJIT will return to action on Wednesday when the Highlanders visit Marist at 7pm.
