OLEAN, NY—St. Bonaventure sophomore Kieran Toland scored his second goal of the night in the final second of the first overtime period, lifting the Bonnies to a 2-1 win over visiting NJIT in the men's soccer season opener for both teams Friday night.
Toland, who hails from Scotland, scored both goals unassisted. He staked his team to an early advantage when he found the back of the net at the 8:34 mark. Toland would generate four of his team's eight total shots for the match.

Samuel Jester less than five minutes from time in the opening period. It was the first career goal for the sophomore Guirassy, who played in 19 games, starting 11, as a freshman in 2014.

Neither team scored in the second half, despite NJIT's dominance of the opportunities throughout regulation time, as the Highlanders owned an 18-6 lead in total shots, including 9-2 in on-target shots through the first 90 minutes.
The Highlanders had a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half and 11-4 in the second half, but were unable to move the needle.
Indeed, the Guirassy score was the only one in the 100 minutes played for the Highlanders who took the loss on Toland's marker with no time showing on the clock.
St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Bobby Diaz made eight saves in addition to conceding the one goal to NJIT in 100 minutes of action. Diaz is a redshirt senior from Long Valley, NJ.

St. Bonaventure was playing its first game under new head coach Kwame Oduro, whose squad featured 14 players who were not with the team last season.
The Highlanders will remain in upstate New York, departing St. Bonaventure for the 75-mile trip north to Buffalo for a 3 pm match at Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
