Box Score 2 BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY—The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday against Manhattan (3-0) and Hofstra (3-1) at the 2014 Terrier Invitational in the Genovesi Center.
In the first match of the day against Manhattan, the Highlanders took the first set 25-23, but the Jaspers answered, taking the next three frames 27-25, 25-9, and 28-26 to improve to 5-1 on the season. NJIT and Manhattan faced each other at the La Salle Invitational on August 30, with the Jaspers earning the 3-0 victory.
The Highlanders second opponent of the day, Hofstra, won its fourth straight match, sweeping the Highlanders 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17, upping its season record to 7-1.
Leading the attack for Manhattan was junior outside hitter Sydney Volovski with a match-high 20 kills, while Malia McGuinness followed with a double-double of 18 kills and 14 digs. Volovski finished the match strong with a .487 hitting percentage.
Teodora Peric piled up 37 assists and 10 dig,s while five Jaspers notched double-digit digs led by Allie Yamashiro (17), McGuinness (14) and Claire Van Dyk, Peric, and Sarah Haselhorst with 10 apiece.
The Jaspers held a 13-to-5 service ace advantage led by Yamashiro (4) and Van Dyk (3).

Danica Vukotic notched four aces for the Highlanders.and recorded a double-double, with 12 kills and 15 digsto pace NJIT. Freshman
Tess Albyn hit .533 with 9 kills and 1 error on 15 swings.
Freshman setter
Alyssa Armada notched a double-double, tying her personal-high with 40 assists and adding 15 digs. The Highlanders had four players reach double-digit digs led by Armada (15),
Danica Vukotic (15),
Fran Edmondson (15), and libero
Camilla Tinari (13).
In the second match of the day for the Highlanders, Hofstra's Veronika Kostova recorded a match-high 14 kills with 0 errors on 16 swings for a .778 hitting percentage. Hannah Klemm and Kaitlyn Krause split time at the setting position for the Pride, recording 26 and 12 assists, respectively. Kelsie Wills led the match with 8 digs.
Danica Vukotic and
Fran Edmondson posted 7 kills apiece, while Armada notched a team-high 19 assists and 6 digs against the Pride.
The Highlanders will break for a week and return to action on September 12 at the Rhode Island Tournament. NJIT will face host URI and Rutgers on Friday at 2pm and 5pm, respectively, and wrap up the tournament against Cincinnati on Saturday at 12pm.
