Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ—Saint Peter's dropped the first set of the match Wednesday but bounced back taking the next three frames en route to a 3-1 victory over visiting NJIT in women's volleyball action at the Yanitelli Center.
Wednesday's match was the second meeting of the season for the two teams, with the Highlanders winning in Newark, 3-1, on September 3.
The Highlanders won the first set, 25-19, but it was the Peacocks who took the next three sets, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-16 to earn the victory.
NJIT (6-14 overall), was led by senior middle
Valerie Carroll with 7 kills and 5 block assists, followed by
Kat Janssen,
Danica Vukotic and
Nina Vukotic each notching 5 kills.
Freshman setter
Alyssa Armada recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 14 digs for the visitors, while libero
Camilla Tinari added 13 digs defensively for NJIT.
Danica Vukotic posted 6 digs.
Saint Peter's (4-10) was paced by Dayana Arrufat's match-high 8 kills and 8 digs while Amanda Colombo and Brittany Smith each added 7 kills.
Peacock setter Kristina Baehr piled up a match-best 24 assists. Arrufat and Kayla Howell shared team-high honors with 8 digs followed by Baehr and Lauren Behrens adding 6 apiece.
Brittany Smith and Meredith Przybocki led Saint Peter's in front of the net recording 4 total blocks each as the Peacocks held a 10-to-7 team blocking advantage.
Saint Peter's Arrufat recorded a match-high 4 service aces, as Saint Peter's led that category 11-to-6. NJIT's Armada notched a team-high 3 aces.
NJIT, which has played 19 of its first 20 matches on the road, returns home to host Robert Morris on October 11 at 2pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
