NEWARK, NJ- The Highlanders showed their depth in their win against MAAC foe Fairfield, 135 – 127, Saturday afternoon at the Fleisher Athletic Center Pool. For the senior's on the team,
Victor Razuk and
Christian Barnard, it was a great last home competition to commemorate their hard work over the last four years.
The exciting back and forth meet had great swims from numerous Highlanders.
Freshman
Anthony Czar placed 1st in the 1000 yard freestyle swimming a 10:11.38 and 500 yard freestyle swimming with a 4:58.54. Also Czar placed 2nd in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.62.
Sophomore
Brian Capozzola placed 1st in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle events with times of 22.00, 49.10, 1:46.39, respectively. Sophomore
Richard Seffrin placed 1st in 100 breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:03.90 and 2:20.10, respectively.
In addition freshman
Michael Sungurov placed 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.99 and 2nd in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:10.10.
Sophomore
Dennis Popov placed 2nd in the 200 yard butterfly, 2:03.09, and 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly with a 55.79.
The final relay deciding the meet was the 800 yard freestyle meet, consisting of Seffrin, Czar, Sungurov and Capozzola. The Highlanders placed first with a time of 7:22.02.
Head Coach
Michael Lawson commented, "This is a great win for the Highlanders; it will propel us into Championships as we prepare for our trip to University of Tennessee in February."
The Highlanders compete in their final competition of this season this Friday January 31st at 5:00pm against Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland.
