After seven days off since the NJIT women's basketball team last played, the Highlanders will host Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday, December 28 at 2pm in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
The Highlanders are coming off a 74-48 road loss at Seton Hall Saturday, December 20, as the Pirates exploded for 49 first-half points, one more than NJIT would get in the full game, and the Pirates prevailed over the visiting Highlanders.
NJIT, which will play the next four games at home, is 2-3 in the Fleisher Athletic Center. The Highlanders last won at home on December 19 when the Highlanders exploded for 53 first-half points and never allowed Fairleigh Dickinson closer than 13 points in the second half of an 84-71 victory. The Highlanders scored their season-best in topping FDU.

Shakia Robinson, who is the only double-figure scorer on the team, averaging 10ppg, while ranking second on the team with 4.9 rebounds per game. Robinson is shooting 61 percent from the field (59-97) for the Highlanders.
Uju Nwankwo, the Highlanders 6-foot-1 forward is NJIT's second leading scorer with 9.4ppg and tops the team with 9.4rpg and 22 blocks. The 9.4rpg and 22 blocks rank Nwankwo 86
th in the nation in both categories.
VCU will bring a 9-game winning streak and 10-1 overall record to town after having clobbered Florida A&M on Sunday, 94-67. The Rams who have had 9-game winning streaks in the past, have never won 10 in a row in the program's 40-year existence. VCU's last nine-game winning streak came in 1994-95.
Senior Robyn Parks, a preseason first-team A-10 honoree is the top scorer for VCU and individual scoring leader in the A-10 with 22.8ppg. Parks is also the top rebounder with 10.0rpg (ranks second in the A10).
The Rams have three other players averaging from 13.6ppg to 10.6ppg. Freshman Isis Thorpe ranks second on the team averaging 13.6ppg while leading the team with 29 3-point field goals while Keira Robinson is third with 11.1ppg.
Jessica Pellechio, a preseason third-team A10 honoree, is the final double-figure scorer for the Rams with 10.6ppg.
VCU, which welcomes nine newcomers, was selected to finish seventh in the 2013-14 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Rams begin conference play on January 2.

La Kea Jones is a 2008 graduate of VCU, where she was a 4-year starting point guard and left as the program's all-time leader in games played and minutes played. As a senior, she led the Colonial Athletic Association in assists. Jones joined the NJJT coaching staff in the summer of 2010.
