BRONX, NY—The NJIT women's volleyball team won the deciding set 15-13 over Cornell Saturday, topping the Big Red, 3-2, at the 2012 Rose Hill Classic hosted by Fordham.
NJIT will play host Fordham this evening at 7pm.
The Highlanders, who have won two straight matches, improve to 4-5 on the season with the five-set thriller over Cornell. Cornell falls to 1-6 on the young season.
The first set was won by Cornell by a score of 25-17 but the Highlanders took control of the match taking the next two frames, 25-19 and 31-29, for a 2-1 lead. Cornell was a 25-23 winner in the fourth set, but it was NJIT who earned the victory in the final set with a 15-13 victory, which was played tight.
NJIT was led by sophomore
Camilla Tinari who produced a team-high 14 kills and six digs. Tinari hit .273 for the match on 33 attempts and five errors. Also contributing to the Highlander offense was freshman
Fran Edmondson, with 13 kills and senior
Janet Snell's 12 kills. Snell notched a double-double with 14 digs to go along with her 12 kills.
The other Highlander to post a double-double in the victory was senior setter
Anna Mercado – 36 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore
Barbara Perru piled up 17 assists and six digs, as she split time with Mercado.

Renata Pandolfo led the way for the Highlanders defensively with 33 digs followed by Mercado's (14) and Snell's (14). Sophomore Katie Goswich combined for eight digs while Perru and Tinari combined for 12.
For the Big Red, Breanna Wong posted a match-high 16 kills while Rachel D'Epagnier and Janel Forte each posted 10 kills apiece. Setter Kelly Reinke notched a double-double with a match-high 53 assists and 14 digs.
Cornell's Kelly Marble led the team with 20 kills while having three other Big Red recording double-digit digs – Reinke (14), Sierra Young (13) and Shannon O'Brien (11).
The Big Red held a 13-9 team blocking advantage over the Highlanders led by E'Epagnier's match-high eight total blocks (assists).
