Volleyball Goes 3-0 at 2012 Rose Hill Classic

BRONX, NY—The NJIT women's volleyball team finished with a 3-0 record Saturday at the 2012 Rose Hill Classic after a 3-1 victory over host Fordham at Rose Hill Gym.
 
NJIT, who evened its record to an even 5-5 on the young season captured the 2012 Rose Hill Classic title defeating the Rams in four sets while the Rams fall to 4-9 on the season.  Stony Brook finished in second place (3-1), which the Highlanders beat on Friday in five sets.
 
Both teams were even after two sets, but it was the Highlanders who came out on top taking the final two frames but identical scores, 25-14, to earn the victory.  NJIT took the first set 25-21 while the Rams answered with a 25-20 victory in the second frame.
 
For the second time today, sophomore Camilla Tinari led the way for the Highlanders with a match-high 13 kills while following with six digs.  Janet Snell posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs as the senior produced her sixth double-double of the season.
 
Setter Anna Mercado tallied a match-high 28 assists while counterpart Barbara Perru added eight assists playing in four sets.  Mercado added six digs and one service ace.
 
Libero Renata Pandolfo led the way defensively with a match-high 27 digs followed by Snell's 10 digs.  NJIT's Valerie Carroll combined for five total blocks (two solo and three assists).
 
Fordham's Brenna Delsing was the only double-figure player in the kills category with 12 kills followed by Lisa Hipps's eight kills.
 
Splitting time at the setting position for the Rams was Sara Konkel and Abigail Konovodoff with 17 and 16 assists respectively.  Hipp and Maria Rodenberg dug-up 11 digs apiece for the Rams.
 
In front of the net for the home team, Randi Ewing combined for a total of eight blocks (one solo and seven assists) as Fordham had a 16-7 team blocking advantage over the visitors.
 
For the tournament, Snell combined for 42 kills (3.00kps) and 31 digs (2.21) while freshman Fran Edmonson produced 37 kills (2.64kps).  Mercado totaled 105 assists (7.50aps) and 27 digs (1.93dps) while libero Pandolfo collected 90 digs (6.43dps).
