Women’s Volleyball Takes Stony Brook in Five, 3-2

NJIT's Janet Snell and Fran Edmondson led the way for the Highlanders Friday producing 19 and 18 kills apiece in a 3-2 victory over Stony Brook at the 2012 Rose Hill Classic hosted by Fordham at Rose Hill Gym.

The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday and face Cornell at 2pm and host Fordham at 7pm.

NJIT (3-5) started off the match with a 25-22 victory in the first set.  Stony Brook answered in the second frame 26-24 to tie the match a 1-1 but the Highlanders went ahead 2-1 with a 26-24 victory of their own in the third set.  The Seawolves tied the match again, this time at 2-2 with a 25-18 win in the fourth frame, before the Highlanders took the fifth set, 15-12, for the match.

Senior Snell contributed 19 kills and seven digs followed by Edmondson's 18 kills, eight digs and four block assists for the Highlanders.  Freshman Nina Vukotic hit a team-best .462 with eight kills on 13 attempts with just two errors for NJIT.

Senior setter Anna Mercado piled up a match-high 41 assists and seven digs while reigning Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week Renata Pandolfo dug-up a match-high 30 digs for the Highlanders.

Stony Brook was led by Melissa Rigo's match-high 22 kills and 15 digs followed by Evan Slaughter's 15 kills and six block assists.

Nicole Vogel put together a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs and Hannah Dolan added 16 assists.  Hailee Herc posted 14 digs while Nicole Parkas and Greta Strenger combined for 11 apiece.
