NEWARK, NJ--Senior Ewelina Marut was the top finisher for NJIT at the 2012 NJIT Classic this past Sunday in the season opener at Branch Brook Park.

The NJIT women went 2-0 at the first home meet (NJIT 23- Hofstra 33, NJIT 15- SPC 50).

Marut finished second overall with a time of 19:39.06 while Hofstra's Rebecca Celorio won the NJIT Classic with a time of 18:49.05.

Catherine Cohen took third, Megan Higgins (5^th), Maryam Haque (6^th), Anna Jezewska (7^th) and Ybrahina Cohen (10^th).

"The women stepped up this meet with a faster team average (dropping 36 seconds) as well as a tighter five person gap (dropping from 45 seconds to 36)." head coach Al Alonso stated. "The ladies have been responding to the training and are on track for their best year ever."

The NJIT women will return to action on October 7 when the team hosts the XC Highlander Challenge at Branch Brook Park.
