UNIVERSITY PARK, PA—Powerful Penn State used a balanced attack with four players scoring in double-figures topping NJIT, 82-37, in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Lady Lions, who are on a four-game winning streak, are ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll and No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll as of December 18, are off to a 10-2 start this season.

For NJIT, Penn State is the highest nationally ranked team the Highlanders have faced since competing against a Division I schedule (2006-07).  NJIT faced DePaul (No. 13/18) in 2010-11 in Chicago.

Penn State, defending Big Ten regular season champions, won its first six games of the season until the streak was snapped at Miami (FL) on November 29 (69-65).  The Lady Lions other loss came at No. 2/2 Connecticut (67-52) on December 6, who also eliminated Penn State from the 2012 Sweet Sixteen NCAA Tournament (77-59).

Junior guard Maggie Lucas, who is among players receiving votes for the Associated Press Preseason All-America team, led the game with a game-high 21 points on a 7-of-11 day from the field and 5-of-8 from behind the arc while sharing game-high honors with NJIT's Uju Nwankwo with eight.  As a sophomore, Lucas earned AP All-American honorable mention.

Senior Nikki Greene, the Lady Lions 6-foot-4 center, combined for 12 points and six rebounds.  Senior guard Alex Bentley, who was selected to the Big Ten coaches' preseason Co-Player of the Year and the Big Ten first-team and Ariel Edwards each chipped in 10 points in the home victory.

NJIT was led by senior guard Melanie Griffin, the only Highlander to reach double-figures at Penn State with 10 points while Nwankwo added seven points, eight rebounds and three block shots.

Sophomore center Nicole Maticka, who entered the 2012-13 season with 83 blocks (setting the NJIT D1 single season record and D1 career record last season) came into Sunday's contest with 100 career blocks, registered three blocked shots against Penn State setting a new NJIT school-record with 103 blocked shots.  Maticka surpasses Liliana Alvarez's 102 career blocks shots (1990-94).

Penn State opened up the contest on a 16-2 run and never looked back finishing 46 percent from the field (28-61), 70 percent from long range (7-of-10) and 80 percent from the free throw line (19-for-24).

NJIT, which will break for Christmas will return to action on Friday, December 28 at St. John's.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm.
