CHICAGO—Senior
Ewelina Marut was the top finisher for NJIT at the 2012 Great West Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Chicago State Saturday afternoon at Montrose Harbor.
Marut finished the 5k race with a time of 19:23, good for 10
th place and was also recognized to the 2012 GWC second team. Texas-Pan American's Judith Chumba captured the women's title with a time of 17:53.
In 2011, Marut tabbed all-Great West Conference second team honors making a significant improvement from the 2010 season, where she finished 36
th. Last season, she crossed the finish line 10th, the highest finish for an NJIT women runner, since competing in the Great West. She completed the 5k course with a time of 18:41.54.

Catherine Cohen was the next Highlander to cross the finish line with a time of 20:20 (22
nd place) followed by senior
Megan Higgins at 20:40 (24
th place).
Ybrahina Cohen finished with a time of 20:52 (26
th place),
Maryam Haque, 21:02 (27
th place), freshman
Anna Jezewska, 21:19 (32
nd place) and
Breanne Hollenbach, 21:31 (33
rd place).
The Highlanders placed fourth out of the six Great West teams. Utah Valley repeated as Great West Conference champions. The Wolverines have won the previous four titles.
