Manhattan Swims Past NJIT

BRONX, NY – The NJIT swimming team competed against Manhattan at Riverdale Day School on Saturday January 28.    Manhattan College won the meet, 89-69 but there were some highlights from the Highlanders.

Senior Chris Early, with a time of 1:10.22 secured first in the 100 breaststroke.

Junior Shawn Bryan placed first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 51.06 and 23.17 respectively.

Sophomore Victor Razuk placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.13.

Freshman JT Stefan, with a time of 1:03.67 placed first in the 100 backstroke.

In addition senior Amy Cilento, junior Johannes Smit and sophomore Nicole Tran all swam seasonal bests in the 100 breastroke.  Smit also placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.12.

Sophomore Christian Barnard started the 200 medley relay and broke the 50 back record with a time of 28.21 (previously 28.47 set by junior Jonathan Van Ostenbridge in February of 2011).

The relay swam by Barnard, Early, Razuk and Bryan placed third with a time of 1:51.13.

The next meet for the Highlanders is Saturday February 4 at Fairfield for a 1pm meet.  This will be the last dual meet for the Highlanders before their championship meet at Rutgers later on in February.
