SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Boston College swept NJIT, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) Saturday afternoon, in the final match of the SHU Invitational hosted by Seton Hall.
On Friday, the Highlanders were topped by host Seton Hall and TCU, 3-0.
Boston College (4-7) got a match-best nine kills and four service aces from Courtney Castle. Freshman Krystle Higgins and senior Tsvetelina Dureva added seven kills apiece for the Eagles while Cagla Sen and Kellie Barnum shared match-high honors with 12 assists.
Defensively, Brennan Clark dug-up a match-high 13 digs followed by Dureva's nine. Boston College held a 12-to-6 team blocking advantage led by Melissa McTighe with seven block assists.
NJIT (3-10) had three players with four kills – Janet Snell who was named to the 2011 SHU Invitational all-tournament team, Renata Pandolfo and Fernanda Lima.
Setter Anna Mercado led the Highlanders with 10 assists while senior libero Audrey Snell registered 10 digs. Janet Snell added eight.
Freshman Camilla Tinari paced the Highlanders in front of the net with three block assists while Lima and Julia Colombo notched two.
NJIT will return to action on Tuesday at 7:30pm when the Highlanders host La Salle in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
