EMMITSBURG, MD -- The NJIT men's swimming team began their season of competition on one of the most unusual weekends of the year.  Even though the team was snowed in Saturday night, it did not stop Mount Saint Mary's from hosting two days of swimming competition on Friday and Saturday with Manhattan College, Virginia Military Institute (VMI), NJIT and McDaniel College all taking part.

Freshman newcomer JT Stefan broke the 200 backstroke record with a converted time of 2:12.02*.  The record was last set in 2006 by alumni Daniel Botero. Stefan also competed in the 100 back and 400 IM this weekend.

On Friday sophomore Victor Razuk placed third in both the 100 fly with a 57.39* and the 200 fly with a 2:14.27*.  In addition on Saturday, junior Shawn Bryan placed third in the 50 free, with a 22.96* and fourth in the 400 free with a 5:33.61*.

Coach Michael Lawson commented that this meet, “It was a good stepping stone to gauge where the swimmers are at.  This benchmark will allow us to build a foundation, setting goals and looking forward toward our upcoming meets.”

The next meet for the Highlanders is Wednesday November 9 against William Paterson University.  The event will take place at home in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center at 6pm.
