Fairleigh Dickinson Grabs 3-1 Victory from NJIT

The NJIT women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22) in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup Wednesday evening at the Stratis Arena.

 

Sophomore Janet Snell was the only Highlander to reach double-figures in the kills category Wednesday with 10.  Newcomer Katie Bartlett and sophomore Fernanda Lima added seven kills and two digs apiece.

 

Anna Mercado and Carly Ziemer split time at the setting position, Ziemer recording a career-high 16 assists while Mercado added 12 for the Highlanders.

 

Leading the Highlander defense was Audrey Snell with a match-high19 digs while Baaba Hughes and Janet Snell both added 12.

 

NJIT had their most efficient offensive set in the second frame, committing just four errors on 36 swings and 15 kills. Lima led the way with five kills.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson was led by Meaghan Wheeler notching 19 kills and 16 digs. Teammates Violeta Slabakova and Sarah Berkland added 13 and 11 kills respectively for the home team.  

Slabakova collected five of FDU's 11 service aces in the match while Berkland had four block assists and one solo defensively for the Knights.  Setter Sarah Willey posted a match-high 45 assists while Kelsey Semler dug-up 18 digs.

 

NJIT will return to action on Saturday against Marist at 12:00pm before facing Holy Cross at 3:00pm.
