MONTCLAIR, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team won its second straight match, 4-3, edging Albany Sunday afternoon at Brookdale Park in the teams' final regular season contest.
NJIT closes the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and will participate in the first Great West Conference postseason tournament, to be contested May 1-2 on the campus of University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.
The Highlanders duo of Nina Mayevska and Isha Toor were 8-4 winners at first doubles Sunday and were followed by a 8-5 win at second doubles by teammates Ana Lidon and Anine Lovdal.
With the momentum from the doubles points, the Highlanders headed into singles play where they took the first match, 6-3, 6-0 led by Mayevska. Mayevska posted her 10th win of the season competing at first singles.
Albany won at second singles but the Highlanders had a quick comeback with a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles by Toor. The Great Danes collected two points at the fourth and sixth spot. Senior Fanny Aizier won in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-3 for NJIT. Aizier finished the season 15-3 at the fifth spot.
