Women’s Basketball Preview vs. Yale

The Highlanders (5-8; 4-2 at home), are coming off back-to-back victories, and will take on the Yale Bulldogs Saturday at 2pm in the Estelle and Zoon Fleisher Athletic Center.

 

NJIT started its win streak at the Hilton Garden Classic hosted by Virginia Tech with a 69-66 win over Central Connecticut on December 30, led by Taiwo Oyelola who posted her sixth career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

 

Tuesday against Fairleigh Dickinson, Jessica Gerald scored a game-high 24 points, 20 coming in the second half, as the Highlanders ended the contest on a 12-0 run, in the final 3:21.  NJIT shot 22-26 (84 percent) from the free throw line.

 

The Highlanders are led by Gerald who tops the team in scoring (15.0ppg) and free throw percentage (71-81; 88 percent). … Taiwo Oyelola, one of four seniors on the squad, leads the team on the glass with 84 rebounds (6.5rpg) and (24) steals.

 

Yale (4-8), who is on a seven-game road trip, has lost its last five contests. … The last win for the Bulldogs was against Boston University on December 9 (61-57).

 

Freshman Megan Vasquez leads the team averaging (10.8ppg), in 12 games and three starts. …  Junior guard Yoyo Greenfield is the only other Bulldog averaging double-figures with (10.3ppg). … Forward Michelle Cashen has 95 rebounds (7.9rpg).

 

In the last meeting between the teams, Gerald led all scorers with 20 points and Kehinde Oyelola added 16 points but it wasn't enough for visiting NJIT to prevail in a 74-66 women's basketball loss at Yale. …  Yale leads the all-time series, 1-0.
