NEWARK, NJ—Visiting Juniata defeated NJIT in straight sets, 30-21, 30-20, and 30-25 in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tait Division action Saturday night in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.
Juniata, which topped the Highlanders, 3-1, on February 7 at Juniata, raised its EIVA Tait Division record to 6-4 with Saturday's win, while NJIT fell to 0-9 in the EIVA Tait.
The Eagles got 10 kills apiece from Dan Powers and Chris Vrooman, with Powers taking 15 swings without an error for a .667 attack percentage. Juniata setter Matt Werle notched 40 assists and his team also enjoyed a 7-1 advantage in service aces.
Anthony Damiano's 16 digs were match-high for the Eagles, while Evan Halteman had four individual blocks (1 solo, 3 assists).
NJIT got 10 kills from senior Amobi Armstrong and 28 assists for Rodrigo Correa, while Charles Bell had the team's only ace.
Freshman Glen DeMagalhaes was the digs leader for the Highlanders, with nine and Steve Sylvester led the way in blocks, with three block assists.
With the season heading into its final three weeks, NJIT will be back on the court on Tuesday at 7 pm, when it visits East Stroudsburg in a non-divisional EIVA match.
